What's New @ Therapeutic Goods Advertising Consultative Committee?

What's New @ Therapeutic Goods Advertising Consultative Committee?

The second ever meeting of the Therapeutic Goods Advertising Consultative Committee (TGACC) was held at the TGA offices in Symonston, ACT on 21 March 2019.

Of particular interest to many of my clients was the discussion on application of the Code in digital marketing, the pre-approval delays and the cosmetic - therapeutic interface issues. These issues are not new I know but at least there is still a voice that can continue to share these on-going concerns.

The closed (‘targeted’) consultation on the use of the term 'natural' in the advertising of therapeutic goods revealed no surprises either. All views seemed relatively consistent with the current stance taken by those with a conservative approach in industry. The policy is to be reviewed and finalised based on feedback and submissions provided.

Additional educational resources on internet & social media advertising, as well as online testimonials and paid social media influencers have been highlighted as necessary and the TGA have committed to developing fact sheets to address these issues.

The next committee meeting will be held in the second quarter of 2019. Do you have something to share?
